Signals that an ecommerce brand is ready to change 3PLs
Switching fulfillment providers is disruptive, so most brands only do it when the pain is clear. The good news for a 3PL: that pain tends to leave visible traces.
Signals you can see from outside
- Customer reviews mention shipping. Late deliveries, wrong items or damaged packaging in recent reviews.
- Growth in channels. A brand adding Amazon, TikTok Shop or wholesale often outgrows a 3PL built for one channel.
- Operations hiring. A posting for an operations or supply chain manager often means fulfillment is under review.
- New regions or products. Oversized items, cold chain or a push into another coast can need a different partner.
- After peak. Many brands review fulfillment in the first months of the year, while the holiday season's problems are fresh.
Qualify before the call
A short checklist saves both sides a wasted meeting:
- Monthly order volume and whether it fits your minimums.
- Product type, size and any special handling.
- Sales channels and integrations they need.
- Who decides, and when their current contract ends.
